College Street Project - Finishing (Phase II)
This is your call to apply for a position on the College Street Project Finishing Task Force (Phase II). Please feel free to call any member of the current Task Force (Phase I) with any questions or information you seek as you consider this opportunity.
Applications must be received in the office by no later than 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 12, 2007 to be considered for this important team.
In June 2005 the board appointed the College Street Project Task Force "to engage in a process that will result in members of the congregation being able to vote, no later than November 30, 2006, on whether or not to build a new facility on the College Street property." One year later the vote to build was successful on May 11, 2006…charge accomplished.
Following the vote the entire Task Force unselfishly agreed to continue their commitment to the project which included conducting a building fund appeal, updating the Program Statement, selecting an architect and overseeing construction that has resulted in a beautiful building nearing completion. The General Contract does not include totally "finishing" the building interior, notably the kitchen, the east wing (administration and religious education) and decorative components. Much research and work for these components has already been accomplished within the Finishing Sub-Group of the current Task Force.
The Task Force is asking to be relieved of their responsibilities upon completion of the General Contract (Phase I) which is anticipated to be before year end. They are recommending a successor College Street Project FINISHING Task Force be formed to finalize the project by implementing Phase II.
Following is the Board Charge to a new group of volunteers to complete Phase II. It is hoped that many of the current Finishing Sub-Group team members will continue their commitment. The current Task Force has agreed to serve as a resource to provide continuity to the new, successor College Street Project Finishing Task Force (Phase II).
BOARD CHARGE TO COLLEGE STREET FINISHING TASK FORCE (Phase II)
You are charged with continuing the work already done in Phase I by the College Street Project Task Force with the goal of completing Phase II below.
Phase I – College Street Project Task Force
- Update Program Statement
- Hire architect
- Conduct Building Fund Appeal
- Complete building through General Construction contract.
Phase II – College Street Project Finishing Task Force
- Complete building interior, exterior and grounds not included in General Construction contract.
- Conduct additional capital fundraising as needed.
Suggested Sub-groups: Completion, Communication, Financing
Phase III – Aesthetics Committee with Green Sanctuary Standing Committee
Ongoing beautification of facility and natural sanctuary.
In all Phases, it is important to involve other UUs.
