Committees and Groups at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Duluth
The following committees and groups are anxious to welcome new and interested people to their committee or group.

Separate listing of offerings will be available.
- Archives Committee - Reviews, organizes and explores the many facets of the history of First Unitarian Church of Duluth.
- Book Group: UU Pretty Good Book Club - Usually meets the third Tuesday of the month except in November 2006 it will meet on the fourth Tuesday. See newsletter for details.
- Bookstore - Used and new books of interest to UUs. Open Sundays after services.
- Buddhist Groups - Two Buddhist groups meet weekly, one at 7:00 P. M. on Tuesday and the other at 7:00 P. M. on Thursday.
- Building and Grounds Committee - Helps maintain and improve our properties.
- BUMS (Broadminded Unitarian Mens’ Society) - Mens’ potluck at 6:00 on the third Thursday evening of the month.
- Campus UUs of the Twin Ports (CUUTP) - For students, faculty, and staff who attend/work at universities and colleges in the Twin Ports communities of Duluth and Superior. Members are kept up-to-date re: opportunities to get together and make a difference. Keep in touch through the CUUTP website at http://www.geocities.com/uuduluthcampus
- Caring Community - Helps church members and friends with various problems where a caring person or group is needed.
- Choir - Open to adults who love to sing. No auditions required. Usually sings two Sundays a month. For rehearsal schedule check the Newsletter.
- CHUM - Our church is a member of "Churches United in Ministry," a local organization which responds to the needs of extremely low income and otherwise marginalized people in our community. The member congregations are a significant source of volunteers and funding for CHUM and also participate in decision-making on its board and delegate council.
- Circle Suppers - Informal potluck gatherings open to all at the homes of friends and members. Held intermittently.
- Committee on the Ministry - Supports the minister and is a conduit for feedback between the minister and the congregation.
- Covenant Groups - Opportunity for connecting, reflecting, and for conversations that go beyond chit-chat. Members commit to six sessions.
- Denominational Affairs Committee - Informs the congregation of activities and resources available through the Unitarian Universalist Association, the Prairie Star District, and the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee.
- Distributive Justice group: Helping People in Poverty - formed in 2006 to address issues of poverty and homelessness in the Twin Ports. It divided into two subgroups: Churches United in Ministry (CHUM) and the Spirit Valley Young Mothers Group.
- Drum Circle - Open to all ages and skill levels. Provides opportunity to play in a percussion community. Meets first Friday of the month.
- Finance Council - Advises the Board of Trustees on financial matters and fund raising.
- Green Sanctuary Committee - In May of 2003, our congregation voted to pursue accreditation as an official UU Green Sanctuary. The resolution reflects the commitment of the congregation to focus on minimizing the environmental impact we have on the earth, other creatures, and the natural systems which sustain life. The Green Sanctuary program reflects the Unitarian Universalist Seventh Principle: respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.
- Interim Minister Transition Team: See details on members, mission, minutes, congregational meeting notes.
- Lake Superior Herbalist Guild - Shares knowledge of herbs. Meets third Tuesday of month at 7:00.
- Library Committee - Maintains a library of UU and other books.
- Membership Committee - Coordinates programming for newcomers and visitors and integrates new members into our church community.
- Music - Organizes and provides music for Sunday services, as well as special music events. Suggestions for music selections for services welcome.
- Newcomers’ Orientation - Informal lunch gathering after Sunday service to learn more about this church, UUism, and each other. Held five to seven times each year.
- Peace and Justice Committee - Uses education, dialogue, and action to promote peace and justice in our community. As a member of CHUM, it also contributes to and supports services to provide for homeless people in the Duluth area. Meetings held at 10:00 every second Sat. of the month at 10:00 A. M. at Bixby’s in Mt. Royal.
- Program Council - coordinates and deals with issues relating to Church programming.
- Publicity Committee - Publicizes weekly services and other church-sponsored events in the local media.
- Religious Education Committee - Oversees and coordinates the religious education program for the children/youth of the church.
- Simple Living Group - The Simple Living group meets the second Sunday of each month at 12:30 P. M. at the Church. This group is for those whose goal is to consume less, spend less, and make a smaller, friendlier footprint on the earth.
- Special Events Committee - Meets approximately once a month, or as needed, to coordinate fun, creative fun(d)raising projects and events.
- UUYAs (Unitarian Universalist Young Adults) - Get togethers for the 18-35 year olds.
- Volunteer Coordinator – Church office at 724-0308.
- Welcoming Congregation Committee - Organizes activities around and promotes awareness of Gay Lesbian Bisexual and Transgender issues. Sponsors monthly Rainbow Movie Night. (Our congregation received official recognition as a Welcoming Congregation by the Unitarian Universalist Association in 2002.)
- Womens’ Brunch - Meets the first Saturday morning of the month for a potluck and conversation.
- Women's Moon Group - The Women's Moon Group meets twice a month, on or around the full moon and new moon. The meetings consist of a ritual focused the moon of that month, followed by socializing.
- Worship Committee - Works with the minister to set the worship calendar and to plan services to meet the diverse needs of the community.
- YAC (Youth/Adult Committee) - Coordinates the youth activities and Wednesday evening meeting for YRUU (Young Religious Unitarian Universalists). Grades 7-12.
- YRUU (Young Religious Unitarian Universalists) - The UU Youth Group of First Unitarian Church of Duluth provides youth opportunities to have fun, to develop a personal direction, and to have a sense of community. This is accomplished through group activities and spiritual and ethical guidance in accordance with UU principles.
