Becoming A Member

Benefits of Membership

Many people feel a deeper sense of connection to the congregation and fellow members once they have joined. Also, only members may vote at a congregational meeting to call a minister, elect candidates for the Board of Trustees, or vote on other issues before the congregation or in committees.  Members receive the UU World, a quarterly publication from the national association.

Path to Membership Class

Attendance at a Path to Membership Class (or classes) is encouraged before becoming a member. These are held 2-3 times a year and give an overview of Unitarian Universalism as well as a chance to connect with other like-minded folks. After the class, participants decide if they are ready to become a member at UUCD. Those who choose to join do so by signing ‘the book’ –the same book that has been used since 1887. This takes place either by a) informally/privately with the minister, or b) during a short ceremony during a Sunday service. Watch the newsletter/website for upcoming information on Path Classes. You could also call the office, speak to our minister, or speak to the person at the Welcome Table in the narthex. Also, you could contact Membership Chairperson Molly Benson at calbenmn@gmail.com or 724-2724
