"Why I Went To Standing Rock"

Rev. Bruce Johnson, presenting

Chief Arvol Looking Horse, Spiritual Leader of the Lakota, Dakota, and Nakota Nations has called upon people of faith to come to the Standing Rock Reservation in North Dakota on Sunday, December 4th, to stand side by side with the indigenous people in an Interfaith Day of Prayer, to "unite in believing we can change the path we are now on."   Those who cannot be physically present have been invited to join in solidarity through prayer in their home congregations.  A month ago, I went to Standing Rock in response to a similar call, and since that time, many peoplehave asked me to preach about that experience. Given the situation at the Oketi Sakowin camp, where thousands of 'water protectors' are threatened with eviction, the time to speak is now.
